A telescope is an optical instrument that uses lenses, curve mirrors, or the combination of both to observe distant objects. According to wiki (where else do I get this info from) there are a few classifications of telescopes by wavelengths. X-ray, ultraviolet, optical, infrared, submillimeter, and radio.
